El Salvador, the country that made Bitcoin legal tender, has bought 21 more Bitcoins to celebrate “the last 21st day of the year 21 of the 21st century,” announced President Nayib Bukele. The country has bought a total of around 1,391 bitcoins.
El Salvador is buying more bitcoins
El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele announced Tuesday that his country had bought more Bitcoin.
His announcement began with a tweet that read, “El Salvador has a total size of 21,000 km2. Coincidence? I do not think so!” He followed up with a series of tweets, which together read:
Today is the last 21st day of the year 21 of the 21st century. At 9:00 pm … We buy 21 Bitcoin for the occasion. I hold the purchase until 21:21:21.
Then he posted a picture of a list of BTC Buy transactions that add up to around 21 bitcoins. “I got a receipt,” he wrote.
El Salvador has been stacking bitcoins since the country made bitcoin legal tender next to the US dollar in September. Including the last purchase, it has bought a total of 1,391 bitcoins.
In October, the country has bought 420 more BTC. In November, the country bought 100 more bitcoins. The last big purchase was in the morning December for 150 BTC, bringing the total purchases to 1,370. raise BTC. With the 21st BTC bought on Tuesday, total purchases are 1,391 BTC.
In the meantime, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) warned El Salvador against the use of Bitcoin as legal tender. The warning came a day after President Bukele announced his plan to build a volcano-powered and funded Bitcoin City Bitcoin bonds.
