1 billion cryptocurrency users in a decade, Coinbase CEO predicts

Brian Armstrong – CEO und Mitbegründer von Coinbase – prognostizierte in den nächsten 10-20 Jahren einen erheblichen Anstieg der Zahl der Personen, die am Crypto-Universum beteiligt sind. 5-fold increase in 10-20 years

Despite the rather bleak state of the crypto market since early 2022, Armstong remains bullish on its future trajectory. At a recent conference, he predicted that a billion people will enter the digital asset ecosystem within a decade:

Given the growth in new crypto users over the past year, Armstrong’s prediction sounds logical. In the first six months of 2021, the number of people involved in the market more than doubled, reaching over 220 million people.

Ark Invest CEO Cathie Wood also spoke at the conference. She argued that financial firms could lose their skilled employees if they DeFi-Do not accept sector:

“In the case of DeFi and the next-gen internet, we see many financial firms losing talent to crypto. So they have to take it seriously or they will be hollowed out.”

Coinbase’s recent efforts

Speaking of Brian Armstrong, it’s worth mentioning the progress his crypto exchange – Coinbase – has made over the past few months.

In March, the company announced that the launch of its NFT-Marketplace will take place “soon”. Although no exact date was announced, over 2.5 million Coinbase users joined the waiting list.

Shortly thereafter, it was announced that the exchange was about to take over the Brazilian crypto exchange 2TM. The latter is controlled by the largest digital asset brokerage in Latin America – Mercado Bitcoin.

In April, Coinbase announced its intention to buy Turkey’s oldest crypto platform – BtcTurk. The acquisition was expected to close for about $5 billion. However, due to the devaluation of the Turkish lira and the recent plunge of bitcoin, the companies struck a deal for $3.2 billion.
