55% of Americans believe they will lose everything if a recession hits the United States – Economics
According to a recent study by Clever, a real estate data company, nearly three in four Americans fear there will be a recession this year, and 69% of study participants say the US is already in a recession. Worse still, 55% of those surveyed said they would lose everything if a recession hit the United States.
Poll shows Americans have bleak economic outlook
After the US Federal Reserve’s most recent rate hike and subsequent US Labor Department inflation data, investors and analysts are uncertain about how the economy will fare in 2023. However, many are anticipating a recession. A recent study by real estate data company Clever surveyed a group of 1,000 Americans and asked 21 questions about the US economy. Clever’s report shows that one in five US citizens see the economy as the most pressing issue today, while 43% of respondents rank it among the top three most pressing issues.
Clever’s study shows that two in three Americans are concerned that the Ukraine-Russia conflict and the Covid-19 pandemic will continue to affect the economy. The market most likely to see respondents expecting a decline is the US stock market, with 38% believing it will. Around 33% of the participants surveyed believe that crypto markets will collapse, 28% believe that labor markets will, and 27% believe that the housing market will fall. The study also shows that 22% of Clever’s poll takers didn’t think the United States had a good fiscal year in the past decade.
Regarding the crypto ecosystem, Clever researchers claim that 31% of the participants use the cryptocurrency see negative. This data includes 57% of the “baby boomer” generation who view crypto negatively. Around 77% of respondents believe the cost of goods and services will continue to rise, and 70% believe inflationary prices could force them into debt. The data also shows that 70% of Americans struggle to pay for basic necessities, and 82% of Liberal respondents think government should step in. A similar opinion was shared by 78% of conservative respondents.
Overall, 80% of Americans polled say they expect some market crashes this year, and 40% believe that will happen in the broader US economy. Clever’s study also shows that around 27% said “the global economy will collapse”. Interestingly, almost one in five respondents said they don’t think the economy will ever recover, with around 28% of baby boomers agreeing. In addition, around 82% of those surveyed said that while they do not expect the situation to ease anytime soon, they do expect the US economy to recover.
