Binance CEO reiterates support for Voyager deal amid SEC pushback
(Reuters) – Changpeng Zhao, Binance’s chief executive officer, on Friday reiterated his support for the exchange’s US partner to acquire Voyager Digital, after a previous tweet indicated that he was considering walking away from the offer.
Voyager, a crypto lender that went bankrupt last year, signed an agreement to be acquired by Binance.US in December.
But the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the New York Treasury Department later rejected the deal.
At a court hearing Thursday, a US bankruptcy judge criticized the SEC for its vague objections to the proposed takeover.
“We still support the deal and help return funds to users ASAP if allowed,” Zhao tweeted.
In an earlier tweet on Friday, Zhao had signaled the possibility of calling off the deal.
“Binance.US remains committed to the Voyager transaction,” a spokesman for the exchange said.
