FTX US CEO Brett Harrison names three things that could trigger a recovery in the crypto market

The CEO of crypto exchange FTX US weighs which policy moves and infrastructure changes could help crypto markets recover.
In a new thread, Brett Harrison explains how both regulatory clarity and improved trading options could provide the backbone needed to renew people’s confidence in crypto investing.

“Some things that could slow market contagion and accelerate recovery:

-Clarity from US regulators.

-More robust US crypto futures and options markets.

-US spot crypto ETFs [exchange-traded funds].”

Harrison emphasizes how well-defined regulations would likely lure mainstream investors with large bankrolls into the digital asset space.

“Regulatory clarity for U.S. crypto exchanges and other digital asset providers would give U.S. institutional investors confidence to continue to bet on the assets’ long-term viability.”

With regard to futures and options trading, the FTX chief believes that strengthening the structure of these investment vehicles could also appeal to institutional capital.

“More robust crypto futures and options markets in the US would also help attract institutional capital, dampen volatility by providing access to capital-efficient hedging, and make it easier for companies to gain exposure to the asset class without engaging in spot trading to deal with.”

Harrison concludes by highlighting the broader benefits that would accrue if the government allowed the first-ever spot-priced crypto ETF to begin trading.

“The approval of spot ETFs in the US would bring efficient pricing and low-cost means of crypto exposure to one of the most regulated and well-understood asset classes in the world.”
