Today, TZ announced APAC, the leading Asia-based Blockchain-Introductory society that Tezosecosystem supports, announced a partnership with the National University of Singapore School of Computing (NUS Computing) to establish the Center for Nurturing Computing Excellence.
Led by associate professor Tan Sun Teck of NUS Computing, the new center will enable students to learn from real industry experts in areas such as blockchain technology, cloud computing and data science.
Singapore is fast becoming a leader in blockchain technology, and the blockchain ecosystem in Singapore and around the world has seen significant growth in recent years.
To meet the growing demand, it is vital for top schools like NUS Computing to build a strong talent pipeline in this fast-growing field and ensure that the computing talent in the country is well-equipped to harness the potential of blockchain technologyin combination with other complementary technologies contribute to Singapore’s digital economy.
Tan Sun Teck, Associate Professor of NUS Computing said:
“In recent years, Singapore has established itself as a leading destination for tech companies in disruptive industries. By partnering with pioneering organizations like TZ APAC, students have the opportunity to benefit from real-world expertise at a critical juncture in their education. With the establishment of this Center for Nurturing Computing Excellence, we hope to raise the bar for computing education in the country and across the region while nurturing the next generation of tech talent.”
Associate Professor Tan is also responsible for training and coaching students competing in internationally renowned programming competitions such as the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), the National Olympiad in Informatics (NOI) and the International Collegiate Programming Contest. In 2021 he led the Singapore IOI team to the best performance in its history, winning three gold medals and one silver medal.
The IOI is a competition of relevance to the entire crypto ecosystem that has been attended by many industry leaders. Notably, Tezos’ early architect Arthur Breitman was an IOI candidate, representing France and securing a bronze medal.
Other prominent figures in the Tezos ecosystem who have participated in the IOI include President of France-IOI Mathias Hiron and Mehdi Bouaziz, Senior Software Engineer at Nomadic Labs. Additionally, Ethereum Co-founder Vitalik Buterin was a bronze medalist competing for Canada.
In order to promote blockchain literacy among the high school students involved in the IOI, as well as the high school and college students, TZ APAC will create a blockchain developer curriculum in which students will be taught in hybrid virtual and face-to-face classes and workshops directly by the team members of TZ APAC, hackathons and tutorials based on use cases within the Tezos ecosystem.
With education being a key priority within the Tezos ecosystem, the establishment of the Center for Nurturing Computing Excellence follows previous engagements with other higher education institutions across the region, including Kyoto University, Nagoya University and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.
Colin Miles, newly appointed CEO of TZ APAC said:
“Over the past year, we have seen major strides towards meaningful adoption in the Asian blockchain ecosystem, and TZ APAC has played a significant role in driving that growth NFT-Artists who want to enter the digital frontier.be it with entrepreneurial projects that build on Tezos or with groundbreaking ones
“By partnering with NUS Computing, we hope to advance a future where blockchain education is not limited to niche developer communities, but is an integral part of computer science curricula at some of the region’s leading universities.”
TZ APAC’s involvement in Singapore is timely given that investments in the Blockchainand cryptocurrency ecosystem in the country grew tenfold from 2020 to 2021, with 82 deals totaling $1.48 billion, according to KPMG. Accordingly, the TZ APAC Tezos Developer Hub recently opened in Singapore’s CBD.
