Solana Blockchain Experiences Technical Flaw Leading To Transaction Slowdowns – Altcoins
The smart contract token network of Solana experienced a technical error known as a “Large Forking Event” on Saturday, February 25, 2023, which resulted in transaction errors for some users. Solana’s incident report dubbed this “cluster instability” and noted that a coordinated restart was launched to expedite the completion of the block.
Solana Blockchain deals with “Large Forking Event”
At around 6:37 UTC on Saturday, the functionality of the Solana blockchain was limited and users reported a significant slowdown in block completion as well as some transaction errors. Solblaze, the liquid staking pool, reported that while Solana has not completely halted block production, it has experienced a slowdown due to a forking event.
Solblaze specified that “Solana is currently operational,” despite a major forking event on mainnet beta that has caused validators to slow down trying to resolve forks. The account said the network is confirming blocks at a rate of around 16 transactions per second. Validator operators and Solana engineers work together to identify the root cause. Also Solblaze called that “Validators begin to roll back from v1.14 to v1.13”.
A coordinated restart is underway to fix an issue during the upgrade from 1.13 to 1.14 that resulted in a significant slowdown in block completion.

The Solana Status Update website has similar information and refers to the issue as “cluster instability”. It noted that Solana engineers are investigating slow root production on mainnet beta and that a coordinated reboot was launched “to resolve an issue during the upgrade from 1.13 to 1.14 that resulted in a significant slowdown in block completion.”
The Solana status page contains a document link that provides validators with instructions on how to proceed with the reboot. Essentially, the validators had to take a snapshot at slot 179526408, change the validator command lines, install the previous version 1.13.6, and then restart the validator. Solana’s recent troubles are reminiscent of the problems the blockchain has encountered over the past year, including multiple block production outages.
