Stronghold Digital Mining Buys 9,090 Bitcoin Mining Rigs

  • The Pennsylvania-based company bought 9080 Bitmain and MicroBT mining rigs, according to an SEC filing on Monday.
  • The announcement is part of Stronghold’s press release for the third quarter dated November 30, 2021, which states that the company has signed four separate contracts for the mining rigs.
  • The first 4,800 mining rigs are expected to be shipped in late December or early January. The other 4,280 were acquired under a profit sharing plan with its partner Northern Data and will ship in the first quarter of 2021.
  • All mining rigs are installed on its wholly owned power generation facility. The filing states that Stronghold has committed to purchase over 54,000 mining rigs with a total hash rate of 5.2 exahashes per second.
  • In a separate announcement, the company signed an equipment finance deal with bitcoin company NYDIG for up to approximately $ 54.0 million – a deal backed by the purchase of 12,000 Antminer S19j Pro-Miners.
  • This is part of the company’s long-term strategy to highlight the benefits of its vertically integrated business model.
