According to the official Azuki Twitter, on Tuesday April 26, Azuki plans to NFT #40 (named “Bobu”) into space on a SpaceX rocket. This is part of Azuki’s “NFT Experiment” where holders of fractional token shares representing Bobu can vote on what Bobu will do in a “Choose Your Own Adventure” style experience. However, Azuki won’t be the first blue-chip NFT collection to touch the stars.

Last December, eight NFTs from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Crypto Punks were sent into Earth orbit aboard the International Space Station (ISS) by an organization called NFTs2Space. With the stated mission of bringing together two pioneering sectors, space and Web3, NFTs2Space, via the Artemis Space Network, offers NFT holders a way to experience space through a transcendent and participatory experience through their personal NFTs.

Artemis Space Network was in the news last year when they sent the first-ever digital art related to NFTs into space. They sent a piece that was later coined as part of one of Micah Johnson’s Aku NFTs. As avid NFT collectors and space fans, the founders of NFTs2Space wanted to find a way to experience their spacesuited monkeys and mutants in a new and unique way, and so became the very first NFTVoyage into space with Artemis chartered as “Crypto Crew 1” on December 1, 2021. The rest is history.

Not missing out on the fun, real life ex-astronauts took part in the second chartered NFTs2Space mission in February. This crew of Cryptonauts featured a 1 of 1 NFT created by former NASA astronaut and artist Ron Garan, who spent over six months aboard the International Space Station. The Crypto Crew 2 mission also included artwork by famed private astronaut Dr. Sian Proctor, who became the first black woman to pilot a spacecraft during the world’s first all-civilian orbital space mission aboard SpaceX-launched Inspiration4 mission.

Apparently, many more astronauts will participate in future missions, adding to the experience and legitimacy NFT owners feel when they send their own NFTs into space alongside the real astronauts’ NFTs. For anyone who thinks Azuki and BAYC holders are waiting for a cool new Metaverse experience with their NFTs in this new WAGMI (“We’re All Gonna Make It”) space race, check out the whitelist over at NFTs2Space to join the next mission.
